Mussoorie is a hill station and a municipal board in the Dehradun District of the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand. It is about 35 kilometres from the state capital of Dehradun and 290 km north of the national capital of New Delhi. The hill station is in the foothills of the Garhwal Himalayan range. The adjoining town of Landour, which includes a military cantonment, is considered part of ‘greater Mussoorie’, as are the townships of Barlowganj and Jharipani.

Mussoorie is at an average altitude of 1,880 metres. To the northeast are the Himalayan snow ranges, and to the south, the Doon Valley and Shiwalikrange. The second highest point is the original Lal Tibba in Landour, with a height of over 2,275 metres. Mussoorie is popularly known as The Queen of the Hills.

SOHAM Heritage & Art Centre

The Soham Heritage and Art Centre Showcases the culture and tradition of Himalayas through paintings on canvasses, sculpture, frescoes, murals and scrap art. This art centre has been developed with the aim of displaying the diversity and wisdom of the Himalayas in a single place through various art forms.

Cloud’s End

Surrounded by the Oak and Deodar forest, Clouds End is landmark to the geographical end of Mussoorie. Located at around 7 kms from main Mussoorie city, Clouds End is know for pleasant scenic view of hills with enjoyable climate. A heritage building built by some British in 1838 is also an attraction at Clouds End.

Camel’s Back Road

A beautiful peaceful walk under the nature will always boost calmness and inner peace. Camel Back Road provides the same experiences in Mussoorie. The 3km long road is named as Camel Back Rd due to the presence of natural layout of rocks shaped like a camels hump at the end of road.

Lal Tibba

Lal Tibba is the highest peak’s topmost point and most famous place in Mussoorie. Popular among tourists and travellers for viewing long trails of major mountain peaks as well as romantic Sunset and Sunrise, Lal Tibba is located at Depot Hill in Landour.

Shedup Choepelling Temple

Shedup Choepelling Temple, colloquially referred as Tibetan Buddhist Temple, is among the most popular shrines in the region. Established by the Tibetan community of Mussoorie, this shrine is an astounding example of Tibetan architecture. The bright interior walls, clay lamps, prayer flags and the surrounding blooming flowers add immense beauty to this shrine.

For an insightful experience, one can read religious books that have been preserved for decades inside the temple. Located favourably in the picturesque Happy Valley, this temple offers a sensational view of the snow-capped mountains and green valleys of Mussoorie.

Happy Valley

Back in the 20th Century when technology had already started governing the lives of people, the quaint little hill station of Mussoorie had kept its natural splendour intact despite the alluring comfort of technology. Mussoorie was always a hill station that was marked by a deep sense of tranquillity. In one part of this picturesque hill station, the people lived in a valley in a jocund manner. Thus, after the fun, frolic and laughter echoing in the air above that tiny valley, it has been named as the Happy Valley.

Jabarkhet Wildlife Reserve

Jabarkhet Nature Reserve is a hidden gem of Mussoorie. Tourist visited it on the walnut trail with JW Marriott Mussoorie. If you love to walk and if you enjoy nature Jaberkhet Nature Reserve is the place for you. The reserve has many well marked trails. If you wish to walk, you can cover more than one trail within a single day. Cell phones work from most of the times within the area.

Company Garden

A major picnic location in Mussoorie, Company Garden is a colourful garden located at 3 km from the Mall. Also know as Municipal Garden or Comapny Bag , it is visited by number of tourists round the year. Company Garden has a variety of beautiful flowers and an amusement park also.

Mussoorie Christ Church

Christ Church was constructed in 1836 and is believed to be the oldest existing church in the Himalayan ranges. It is also believed that the church was built by the British community, who once resided in the destination. Located near a heritage hotel, the church was once visited by Princess of Wales, who later became Queen Mary of England. She visited Mussoorie in 1906, and when she visited the Church, she planted a deodar tree in its courtyard. The deodar is still standing in the courtyard of the Church.

George Everest’s House

George Everest House is situated about 6 kms from Gandhi Chowk in Massoorie and one of the major tourist attraction in Mussoorie. Sir George Everest’s House and Laboratory, also know as the park Estate was built in 1832. It was the home and laboratory of Sir George Everest. He was a Surveyor- General of India from 1830 to 1843. Sir George was largely responsible for completing the section of the Great Trigonometric Survey of India along the meridian arc from the south of India extending north to Nepal. Hilary and Tenzing were the first successful persons who ascended the Mount Everest. Later on they named this peak as a Mount Everest to give tribute to Sir George Everest. The house is situated in a place from where you can see panoramic view of the Doon Valley on one side and snow clad Himalayan range on the other

The Mall

Most famous promenade in Queen of the Hill, Mussoorie is the Mall. At an height of above 2000 mtrs, The Mall is major attraction in Mussoorie. Almost every visitor of Mussoorie have to visit the beautiful Mall Road which stretches from Picture Palace at east to the Library at the west.

Jwala Devi Temple

Famously Know as Jwala Ji Temple, Jwala Devi Temple is center of faith and devotion for devotees of Goddess Durga located at the top of Binog hill in Mussoorie at an altitude of 2104 mtrs, Jwala Devi Temple is surrounded by Oak and Deodar trees.

Apart pilgrims and devotees, nature lovers also visit the place frequently. As surrounded by the thick green forest, Jwala Devi Temple is major attraction for nature lovers.

St. Paul’s Church, Landour

St. Paul’s Church is one of the most historic churches in Landour, Mussoorie. It was constructed in 1839 and is an Anglican church. The church is of great historic importance as it was the most important church in the British cantonment during the colonial period. It’s usually open on Sundays for Mass at 9:30 AM

Kempty Falls

Kempty Falls is a magnificent waterfall and recreation area set in the lap of a green valley. It’s a favorite hangout of local residents, who come to cool off in waterholes, have fun with relaxed boating activities and enjoy scenic picnics. A British officer established Kempty Falls in the 1830s as a place for the British Raj to hold tea parties. It is most popular place of tourist attraction. 

Jharipani Falls

Jharipani Falls Situated near Jharipani village, the enchanting Jharipani Falls is approximately 7 km away from Mussoorie. The breathtaking view of Shivalik Range, species of wild flowers, creepers and shrubs that surround these falls will certainly leave you spellbound. 

In addition to these, one can behold the beautiful Doon Valley and step farming fields, which lie on the other side of the waterfall. An ideal place for picnicking and some adventure, this fall is definitely a must visit.

Santura Devi Temple

Situated 12kms on the way to Kempty Falls, and then the trek of about 1 km, this holy shrine is known for its spiritual importance among the residents of Mussoorie. It is believed that the entire town of Mussoorie was saved from the wrath of the 1991 Uttarkashi earthquake by the Holy Divinity ‘Santura Mata’. Hence, the name Santura Devi Mandir.

Nag Devta Temple

Origin of the Nag Devta temple is not known, but it is believed to be ancient. It is located some 6 km from city centre on Cart Mackenzie Road, on the way towards Dehradun. Coming to the portals of the temple, one will be greeted with beautiful scenery of Doon Valley and the town of Mussoorie. The humble shrine of Nag Devta brims with celebration, activity and people on the day of Nag Panchmi. On this occasion, several rituals are undertaken in the beautifully decorated temple. It is the day when devotees are seen bathing live cobras with milk and feeding them.

Lake Mist

The place is ideal for spending the moments of repose with your family and friends. The pristine lake is among the most beautiful destinations in the Queen of Hills i.e. Mussoorie. The emerald waters are covered by green forest terrains from sides giving the whole scenario a resplendent image.

It comes on the way to Kempty Falls. It feels great to spend time with the serenity of nature’s bliss. It is one of the most beautiful things to be seen in Mussoorie. Another plus point is that the place is less crowded hence you can enjoy the calmness in the laps of nature. It is a gem of attraction.

Gun Hill

A historical and second highest peak of Mussoorie, Gun Hill is favourite place for viewing picturesque Himalayan Range and Doon Valley. A popular view point of Mussoorie, Gun Point is located at 400 ft above The Mall and accessible by a cable car as well.

Mossy Fall

Located in a dense forest, Mossy Falls is also among the places to visit in Mussoorie for the nature lovers. It is just 7 km away from the hill station on the Bala Hisar route. The scenic views and the peaceful surroundings will make you fall in love with a spot.
